Makita introduces new mowers and line trimmers
Makita’s share of the grounds maintenance market continues to grow and recent launches include new cordless and mains powered lawn mowers, and cordless and petrol powered line trimmers.
The twin 18v (36v) cordless mower now has a 43cm cutting width whilst the 240v mains powered mower with 33cm cutting width cuts closer to walls than previous models. The latest 18v line trimmer has the motor in the cutting head and the new 24.5cc model is powered by the environmentally friendly MM4 4-stroke engine.
The new Makita DLM431 36v push type lawn mower is powered by two 18v Lithium-Ion batteries and will run the rotary twin tooth blade up to 3,600rpm. The battery “fuel gauge” showing the state of charge is conveniently placed at the handle bar controls. The Soft Start system controls the initial power supply giving a smooth run up of the powerful 36v DC motor even if the power control is fully depressed. An electronic current limiter protects the motor from overload in operation.
The wide 43cm cutting width is complimented by 13 cutting height settings selected by a single adjustment lever. The mower body is a rigid housing for rugged reliability and the ball bearing axles give free running wheel action. This mower is recommended for lawns up to 950m², has low levels of noise and vibration and a 50 litre grass box with grass level indicator.
The new Makita ELM3311X 240v push-type electric mower has a 1,100watt induction motor that will run the rotary blade up to 2,900rpm and a 33cm cutting width with three height positions of 20mm, 40mm and 55mm. The lightweight 27 litre grass box has a useful grass level indicator. Overall this mower weighs just 13kg thanks to the moulded polypropylene deck housing design which also allows the wheels to be fitted in line with the body so they don’t protrude, enabling you to mow up close to borders, walls and kerbing. This model has quick folding handles, carry grip for easy transport and is recommended for lawns of up to 400m².
The new Makita DUR184LZ 18v brushless linetrimmer.
The new Makita DUR184LZ, cordless 18v, two-speed linetrimmer features the latest Brushless motor technology for long run times and extended life, and in high gear will run up to 6,000rpm. The motor is housed in the drive head and with the battery and electronics housed at the top of the bent shaft, the balance of this trimmer is ideal. The conveniently placed trigger switch has a lock-off lever, 2-speed selector and constant speed control. If the trimmer is not used for one minute the power switch automatically shuts off the system.
The curved shaft keeps the cutting head parallel to the ground for accuracy and the ergonomic loop handle gives excellent control. The small line protector provides an excellent view of the cutting area and the shaft can be extended by 4” for extra comfort and control. This linetrimmer is supplied as a body only model.
Powered by the high performance Makita MM4 4-stroke petrol engine the new EM2511LH linetrimmer has a 42cm cutting diameter and weighs just 5.3kg. Running on straight unleaded petrol the 24.5cc engine develops 1.0 hp and the pressure fed oil lubrication system enables this trimmer to be used at any angle. The MM4 engine has reduced exhaust emissions, low fuel consumption and low noise. It is fitted with the reliable diaphragm type carburettor, auto decompressor and fuel primer pump for easy starting. The loop handle gives full control at any angle of use and the protector covers both metal blade and nylon cutting head.
