Natural And Non-Turf Cricket Facilities From total-play
Sports surface specialist total-play Ltd has had plenty to shout about recently, having secured a series of high-profile contracts for both natural and non-turf cricket facilities. However, the company is still working with numerous grass-roots clubs, providing the very best solution for the budget available.
Recent projects include the installation of a non-turf batting end at Curdridge Cricket Club and a new non-turf match play wicket for Wilcott Cricket Club; both rural clubs serving tiny Wiltshire villages.
Also in Wiltshire, the small – but upwardly mobile – Burbage and Easton Royal CC commissioned the team to design and install a new 2 lane, 27m open-ended practice system as part of an ambitious programme of investment.
Meanwhile, at Wendover CC in Buckinghamshire, total-play undertook the refurbishment of an existing 2 lane practice net system – including the installation of new and cleaning of old carpets – alongside the construction of new non-turf match play wicket.
Another refurbishment job has been carried out at Old Whitgiftians CC, near Croydon in Surrey. Work on the 3 lane practice facility included installing new shock pads and playing surface carpets, upgrading steelwork to create a uniform cage and erecting new netting and batting curtains.
And it’s not just the installation and refurbishment of non-turf facilities that grass-roots clubs are investing in, as total-play’s Business Development Manager, James Coney (pictured right) explains: “As an ECB Code of Practice installer for non-turf pitches and having developed our own, ECB approved tp365 system we regularly get approached by clubs of all sizes that are looking to install systems having secured funding from ECB, Sport England, The Lord’s Taverners and other sources.
“However, we also get a lot of work from clubs that haven’t been able to secure funding and have had to raise funds themselves – whatever the budget we can recommend a solution to replace or re-vamp existing facilities to meet their needs, and they can rest assured that a team with full knowledge of ECB and IoG requirements is undertaking their project.
“We also carry out lots of end of season natural turf works for smaller clubs that maybe don’t have their own grounds management equipment, and undertake repairs and netting installation and removal at the beginning and end of the season so clubs don’t have the hassle. While it’s always great to win bigger contracts, grass roots cricket holds the key to the future of the sport, and we’re proud to be able to work with clubs at every level.”
