A spotlight on our industry

A spotlight on our industry

1 May 2019

Delegates attending our Question Time event at St George’s Park this June will have another great opportunity to discuss salient issues concerning our industry.

Turf Business are looking forward to hosting our second UK event at the Football Association’s facilities at St George’s Park (the home training ground of England’s national football squad) on June 25th.

This highly-anticipated event will be presented in an engaging, Question- Time format, modelled on the popular TV programme. Attendees will also enjoy a fantastic facilities tour of England’s football training grounds. The one-day event aims to continue the outcomes from both the Summit in Madrid and a recent Working Group that took place at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium earlier this month. It will also be another platform to help establish a topical agenda for the second Turf Business Summit in Portugal’s Quinta do Laga this October.

Turf Business Question Time

With an informal but thought- provoking agenda, attendees will be able to ask questions related to many aspects of turfcare with professional grounds-carers invited from across all fields of the industry, as Martin Smart, Turf Business Publisher says: “Both our Etihad and St George’s events are linked to our Summit this year. At St George’s Park, we will ask the industry to pose questions to a panel of influencers. Ahead of St George’s event, we want to hear from Turf Business followers, so please send in your questions and the best of these will be put forward to the panel on the day.”

The St George’s Question-Time event is free to attend and Turf Business look forward to receiving applications from our readers. The gathering this June will once again highlight issues shared by turf-care professionals and spark ongoing, healthy discussions as well as build on the success of our previous and future events. St George’s Park is another opportunity to keep industry discussions alive.

If you’d like to apply for tickets to St George’s Park, please email our Events Manager, Christine Barr on: christine@turfbusiness.co.uk. Ahead of this event, we would like to thank all our sponsors and Scott Brooks, Head of Grounds & Estates for his help in organising and hosting the event.

Engaging events

Turf Business events form part of a concerted effort and an ongoing drive to highlight challenges and concerns affecting turfcare. We encourage all readers to engage with Turf Business via our social media platforms by submitting stories, videos and independent initiatives. For Turf Business, it is members of the grounds- care community who shape events and help formulate the right agenda for our second Summit this year.

Whether you are attending our events or completing our ‘state-of the nation’ surveys, the feedback we receive from turf-care professionals really counts. Delegates who take part in our surveys will have the chance to win a place in Portugal. And remember, the more you engage with Turf Business, the more raffle tickets you earn for the Summit-prize draw.

Widespread events

Dennis and SISIS’s recent Groundcare Seminar was a widely-praised event. It was also a winning example of how events go a long way to help exchange ideas, expertise and experience across the industry; a goal that Turf Business share. Roger Moore, Sales & Marketing Manager at Dennis & SISIS explains their decision to support the Turf Business Summit: “Dennis and SISIS have been hosting educational groundcare seminars for many years with the aim of bringing together like-minded individuals under one roof with thought provoking presentations and discussions. This philosophy was also evident in Madrid and has made the decision to support the summits very worthwhile.”

Meanwhile, the March golf links event, held at Royal St George’s Golf Club and hosted by Paul Larsen, was another worthwhile gathering, as Ian Kinley, Course Manager at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, said: “The Links Club appears to have been a great success with all feedback being very positive. It’s something which we hope will grow and stand the test of time. I think we haven’t hidden the fact that we have taken inspiration form the Irish Links Initiative which is superb and attendance to their Autumn Conference remains part of our plans. All that we really want to achieve is to gather a load of likeminded links greenkeepers together in an informal/relaxed environment where we can share ideas and experiences and basically talk links greenkeeping. The intention is to host an annual event in a different location which will provide different topics just by being somewhere new and generate discussion off the back of it really.”

Richard Owens, Golf and Technical Manager at Tillers Turf (sponsors of this successful event), added: “With many of our groups products and services being used on many of Europe’s top links courses it was a pleasure for Tillers Turf, Fineturf and Fineturf Machinery to cosponsor and support the 2019 Links Club. It’s good to know that our traditional links courses and more importantly the stewardship of these vitally important pieces of land are in good hands.”
