E-Z-Go Golf Car Fleet for Letham Grange

18 May 2006

The Letham Grange Golf Courses, situated in mature parkland 4 miles north of Arbroath in Tayside, has taken delivery of a fleet of 16 golf cars from E-Z-GO, a Textron company (NYSE: TXT), all equipped with DeltaQ onboard chargers.

The golf cars, purchased from local dealer Fairways GM, are the E-Z-GO TXT models with the patented Precision Drive System and also feature the labour-saving single point battery filling system for ease of maintenance.

Fraser Gemmell, General Manager at Letham Grange commented, “Since the resort opened in 1987 it has experienced some ups and downs, but under the current management it had gone from strength to strength. We are raising the profile of the Club, enhancing the facilities here and this new fleet is part of that process.

“We want to be seen as one of the region’s premier golfing locations and with two 18-hole courses, set in superb parkland locations, together with the club house in the tastefully refurbished baronial mansion house, we have courses to cater for golfers of all abilities. These buggies will ensure that the more elderly golfers can still enjoy the challenge of our courses.”

The Club have taken the fleet on a three year contract hire lease, which from a management perspective is an ideal arrangement. With a fixed cost they know exactly their outlay, month by month, with no hidden surprises. Recognising the storage issues relating to petrol and the noise generated by petrol engines, they opted for the electric buggies with their smoother and quieter ride with the added benefit of lower operating costs.

Fraser Gemmell concluded saying, “We are delighted with our decision to go down the electric route. The onboard chargers make for easy management; we can leave them outside in our Buggy Park and simple plug them in for overnight charging. The battery filling system also makes routine checking and maintenance extremely simple. It’s a labour-saving innovation and only requires a quick check; if any cell is low on electrolyte it can be topped up in seconds.”

The Old Course at Letham Grange has gained a reputation as one of the toughest inland courses in Scotland, and with water featuring on most holes and measuring almost 7,000 yards from the back tees, this reputation is justified.
