Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Garside

29 Jun 2008

As part of Technical Surfaces’ ongoing commitment to their customers and suppliers all over the UK, they were recently invited by Garside Sands, part of Aggregate Industries, to undertake a presentation to the entire staff at their Leighton Buzzard quarry.

Technical Surfaces has enjoyed a long-standing association with the firm, who are the main suppliers of the specialist silica sands used in the wide range of remedial and maintenance works that the company carry out on synthetic facilities across the whole of the country.

With this in mind, Technical Manager Sean Colbert was asked to visit the quarry to make a presentation outlining the types of works and purposes that their sand is regularly put towards. As the principal provider of maintenance to synthetic pitches nationwide, Technical Surfaces use specialist sand primarily for topping-up sand-based synthetic pitches, although it also forms a crucial part of the company’s patented Rejeneration® service for poorly-draining and older pitches.

Liz Brown, Marketing Manager for Garside Sands, commented: “It is useful for the Garside Sands teams, both commercial and operational to gain a first-hand understanding of the specialist applications the sand goes in to after it leaves the quarry. Sean made a very useful presentation to the team, and as a result of this everybody has a greater understanding of our customers’ needs and expectations.”

It’s been a very busy time at the quarry lately, as Business Manager, Clive Martin, and Operations Manager, Graham Turk, were recently interviewed by the BBC, and will be featuring on the BBC prime-time TV programme, “The One Show”. The show aimed to answer a viewer’s query as to “why Leighton Buzzard sand is exported overseas, including countries in the Middle East which have an abundance of their own sand”.

The film will air on Friday 6th June on BBC1 as part of The One Show’s series on towns with a ‘Claim to Fame’.

As the use of silica sand is central to many of the specialist processes provided by Technical Surfaces, the company strives to ensure that only the best materials are used to retain and restore the playing and draining characteristics of their client’s facilities. Awareness of the sand’s origin and an understanding of its quality will reassure their customers that nothing but the best is good enough for Technical Surfaces.
