EGO unveils next-generation robotic mowers featuring AI technology

EGO unveils next-generation robotic mowers featuring AI technology

23 Apr 2026

  • Path IQTM technology delivers centimetre-level precision
  • AI-powered obstacle detection adapts in real time
  • Remote user control and monitoring with the EGO Connect App

EGO, the battery-powered outdoor power equipment specialist, has launched the AURA-R2, a new range of robotic mowers engineered to handle complex gardens without the need for boundary wires.

Moving beyond traditional wire-based systems, the AURA-R2 introduces PATH IQTM, EGO’s proprietary multi-layered stack of technologies that work together to provide the mower with intelligent navigation, positioning and perception. Designed to improve accuracy, adaptability and real-time response, the system combines RTK GPS, binocular VSLAM cameras, visual-inertial odometry (VIO) and AI-based object recognition.

Together, these technologies provide centimetre-level positioning accuracy and enable the mower to understand its surroundings, refine its map continuously and react dynamically within irregular or multi-zone gardens.

Within PATH IQTM, RTK GPS provides absolute accuracy using satellite data and correction signals, while VSLAM uses a binocular camera to enable the mower to build and continuously refine a visual map of its environment. Lastly, VIO and AI vision enable the mower to detect and track obstacles, no matter if they are static or moving, in real time. If children, pets or other moving items enter its path, the mower automatically slows, reroutes or stops.

Andrew Frohock, IoT Product Manager for EGO, said: “Traditional robotic mowers have laid the groundwork for today’s smarter outdoor robots, but most relied on boundary-wire; navigation was typically random, and performance on steeper or more complex terrain was often constrained by the technology available at the time.

“Our goal was to develop an autonomous system that fits into real homes rather than demanding perfect conditions. With the AURA-R2, we focused on building a next-generation machine that has technology and intelligence at its core. For tech enthusiasts, this unusually high level of precision mapping, AI-assisted navigation and seamless software integration demonstrates how far the sector has progressed and sets the stage for the next generation of gardening innovation.”

Control and customisation are available directly via the onboard display and remotely through the EGO Connect app, which allows users to monitor the machine’s status, mowing progress and battery level from anywhere in the world. Security is also integrated, with PIN protection, GPS tracking, geofencing alerts, and remote locking designed to deter theft.

A sophisticated design supports the intelligent technology and provides added flexibility for users. For example, integrated headlights allow reliable operation in low-light conditions, while a 180-degree front bumper adds an extra layer of protection for navigating tight edges and corners. The mower is also IP66 rated, making it fully weather-resistant and allowing it to be cleaned quickly using a pressure washer while a dedicated rain sensor tells the mower when it should return to its charging hub during wetter conditions.

Ideal for medium, large or complex gardens, the AURA-R2 range includes three models – RMR1500E, RMR3000E, and RMR6000E – supporting properties with lawns of up to 6,000m2, with up to 40 configurable mowing zones. With an adjustable cutting height between 20mm and 90mm, and intelligent slope handling allowing the mower to work on slopes of up to 50%, its use is extended beyond flat suburban lawns.

Fast charging and efficient path planning allow the machine to cover up to 3,000m2 within 24 hours, keeping maintenance predictable and largely invisible.

The EGO AURA-R2 range starts at £1,799 and is available for tech enthusiasts to buy from: https://www.egorobotmowers.eu/
