Elmwood Golf Course Tree Planting A Community Effort
Staff and students from the Elmwood Campus of Scotland’s Rural College in Cupar spent a busy afternoon alongside pupils from the local Castlehill Primary School recently, as they planted trees on Elmwood Golf Course. The trees were provided by the Woodland Trust as part of a Community planting project.
The Woodland Trust is a charity devoted to the conservation and establishment of woodlands across the UK. The trust has been offering communities the opportunity to receive one of their 4,000 packs of saplings. Staff at SRUC’s Elmwood Golf Course in Fife submitted their successful bid as part of their own community planting project and took delivery of 420 young trees, including Wild Cherry, Silver birch and Rowan.
Pupils from P2, P4 and P5 classes at Castlehill primary went along the Elmwood Golf Course to help plant the trees on Friday 14th March. Working with SRUC students studying for an HND in Professional Golf at the Elmwood Golf Academy they all had great fun, enjoying the digging and getting officially dirty.
For Scotland’s Rural College Deputy Manager Education, Research and Environmental Matters, Greg Kilgour said: “We are very grateful to the Woodland Trust. It was great to see everyone coming together and being so enthusiastic about the tree planting.
“It’s amazing to think that in 15 years time these saplings will be well established adult plants enhancing the look of the golf course. By then a lot of the children involved today will be well into their twenties!”
