High-Profile Speakers Line-Up For IOG National Conference
This year’s Institute of Groundsmanship’s (IOG) National ‘Turf Matters’ Conference (4 December at stadiummk, Milton Keynes) will be the turf industry’s education event of year with high-profile speakers from across the industry.
Head greenkeeper at Ryder Cup venue Gleneagles – Steve Chappell.
Steve Chappell, head greenkeeper at this year’s Ryder Cup venue, and international turf expert Jerad Minnick, have just been announced as presenters at the event being hosted by talkSPORT’s Mark Saggers.
They complement other high-profile names, including England rugby league captain Kevin Sinfield – who will present a player’s view of the importance of high-class turf playing surfaces – and Twickenham Stadium’s head groundsman Keith Kent, who will focus on how multi-use stadia can make the most of modern sports turf technology.
Pete Hussey and Adam Witchell from IOG Grassroots Sports Grounds of the Year winners Stanley Park and Beversbrook Sports Facility, respectively, will join Andrew Gill from The Parks Alliance to discuss ‘How to increase the usage of natural turf’.
In addition, taking part in Q & A formats, clerks of the course Chris Stickels from Royal Ascot and William Derby from York Racecourse will debate racecourse excellence, while Stuart Kerrison, head groundsman at Essex County Cricket Club and Gary Barwell from Edgbaston Stadium, will highlight the pressures involved in modern-day cricket turf maintenance.
From the independent schools sector, the Conference will also welcome Harrow School’s interim grounds manager Lee Marshallsay and Eton College’s John Taylor, who will talk about managing sports turf for schools and community use.
