Artificial Intelligence

29 Sep 2009

Will mowing the lawn twice a week, watering, weeding and fertilising continue to be the preferred choice of the masses? Will parents prefer their children to have grass stains on their clothes after playing in the garden? Will home owners prefer Saharan dust balls in the summer months and mud baths in the winter months? Not when they see how good artificial lawns have now become.

Natural lawns don’t really make too much sense when you think about it. All that cutting, edging, feeding, weed-killing, all that tedious time spent pushing a lawn mower around the garden when you would rather be sitting in a deckchair with a large glass of cold drink – and all to maintain something that stains your clothes, gets churned up if you walk on it too much and looks messy for half the year when it doesn’t grow.

Advances in technology mean that artificial lawns no longer conjure up the unpleasant memories of luminous green ‘green grocers’ monstrosities of old. Many home owners with children and pets share the same problem of maintaining their lawn to any sort of acceptable standard.

The natural grass is unable to withstand the rigours of active children and dogs bounding about and digging.  The problem doesn’t stop in the garden with the mud then traipsed through the kitchen and throughout the house.

Technical Surfaces, who have over 25 years experience within the synthetic surfaces industry, have seen the massive improvement over the last few years. “It uses not just one colour but a blend of tones to replicate the natural look of grass and once laid gives a swirling effect associated with natural turf,” says Greg Hill of Sow Green.

“Many gardeners are turning to artificial lawn as a perfect solution to their problem,” says Hill. “Artificial grass has developed significantly over the recent years from sports Astroturf to realistic lawn grasses that from a few paces away are virtually indistinguishable from a well manicured real lawn.  You can even have a stripped lawn just like Wembley or even have the smell of freshly cut grass.”

The grasses from Sow Green are available to buy for DIY installation and would be delivered on the roll four meters wide by the required length. Alternatively prices can be obtained for a lawn fully installed into your garden by a team of professionals.

The installation of artificial grass is very simple and can be carried out in a single weekend. Your new lawn can also be easily cut to any shape.

Advantages of an Artificial Lawn:

Very little maintenance is needed, although it will need regular brushing to remove dirt and debris.
Hard wearing and long lasting.
Good for shaded areas, roof terraces and balconies

An artificial lawn can now be a real alternative for everyone.
