Funtec Creates YellowWave in Brighton

28 Jun 2007

Brighton recently became host to the UK’s First permanent beach sports venue. The NIVEA SUN Yellowave centre, situated on the naturally pebble beach between the famous Brighton Pier and marina, has been created using specially selected and imported sand. Central to its success was the provision of specialist equipment for beach volleyball, foot-volley, beach football and beach rugby by Kent based Active Leisure Contracts, the UK distributors for Funtec sports equipment.

Katie Randall, Director of Yellowave Ltd., commented “The Funtec” “Switch system sockets” allow us to swap equipment quickly, allowing us to have groups playing different sports on the same pitch areas in the same day. It does take a little time to swap the courts around, but this will become quicker with practice. Funtec, proved very helpful with any questions, and assisted us in the design and installation phase. We do find that the “Pro-beach” height adjustable volleyball posts are very useful, aiding quick changes to game styles, ages and abilities.”

Yellowave’s facilities allow up to six beach volleyball / foot-volley courts, two 5-a-side beach football or rugby pitches. An international size beach football pitch or exhibition beach volleyball court can also be created if required. The centre is open from 10am to 10pm with a café for refreshments on site so people can relax and watch others getting covered in sand!  Yellowave are actively encouraging families and newcomers to beach sports to use their centre, offering taster and drop-in sessions as well as hosting local leagues.

Yellowave are already planning stage two of their centre, and may be expanding their area with more equipment in the near future. Plans for 2007 include hosting the National Beach Volleyball finals in early September.

As well as beach sports equipment Funtec UK also offer a range of portable and fixed football court surrounds and netting together with a range of artificial grass surfaces to meet all international standards.
