Lely Strengthens Turfcare Activities

25 Feb 2010

Move sees Lely Group obtain exclusive Toro distribution in Denmark

The Lely Group has announced its acquisition of Toro turf machinery Danish distributor, SC Svend Carlsen. The move adds to the Dutch group’s UK and Ireland Toro distributorships, operated here by Lely UK, and further strengthens its strategic relationship with U.S. manufacturer The Toro Company.

Favoured by many of the world’s most famous golf locations and sports venues, Toro has been the frontrunner in professional-performance turf machinery since early 1914. From top-specification mowers, utility vehicles, aerators, sprayers and renovation equipment for golf, sports, amenity and landscaping applications, Toro’s diverse product portfolio also includes a line of lawnmowers for homeowners – all built to the highest of standards to satisfy the demands of customers.

Under the company’s ‘Partners in Turfcare’ umbrella, Lely already has sole distribution rights for Toro Commercial, Irrigation and Consumer ranges across the UK and Ireland. As an established distributor, Lely prides itself on providing exceptionally high standards of sales and after-sales service on Toro products via both its network of dealers as well as in its own right.

SC Svend Carlsen had been a valued Toro distributor for over 40 years. But with the owners looking to retire, The Toro Company was keen to safeguard the high standards of distribution and service enjoyed by its products in Denmark. And with Lely looking to expand its turfcare activities, it was a natural development for it to become the new distributor. SC Svend Carlsen employs nine people. Lely has appointed Carsten Brandt, whose background is in business management and, more recently, with a golf complex, as its new manager.

“Our turfcare activities are a strategic addition to our agricultural operations,” says Graham Dale, Lely UK’s managing director and also a member of the Lely holding group board of directors responsible for Toro. “This acquisition gives us the opportunity to leverage the extensive turfcare industry knowledge we already have in the group, to strengthen our strategic partnership with Toro and build on the success of Toro and SC Svend Carlsen in a growing Danish market.”
