Allett Engineer Reaches Chartered Engineering Status

6 Jan 2015

Allett Mowers, a leading manufacturer of cylinder lawnmowers, are proud to announce that it’s Engineering and Quality Manager has achieved Chartered Engineering status, the highest grade attainable.

John Gittins, who has been with the company for over seven years, gained the Chartered Engineer qualification through the IAgrE (Institution of Agricultural Engineers), a licensed body of the Engineering Council.  To help him achieve the qualification, John followed his Bachelors in Engineering degree with a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering, which he studied at Harper Adams University.

He also had to demonstrate his competence and commitment to professional standards in 17 key areas, the evidence for which was collected from various projects John had undertaken or managed over a four year period.                                                                        John Gittens.

Following a number of work placements while at university, John joined Allett in 2007 directly from Harpur Adams.  He has since worked his way up from Design and Development Engineer to his current position of Engineering and Quality Manager.

“I have been interested in engineering from a very young age – I loved playing with Lego Technic! – and as a child I grew up on a dairy farm in Shropshire, which is where my love of agricultural comes from.  It has been fantastic to be able to combine these two passions at Allett,” explains John.

“Achieving Chartered Engineering status is a huge achievement and one I am very proud of.  It was extremely hard work but has definitely been worth it and is the highlight of my career to date.”

Austin Jarrett, managing director of Allett Mowers, adds: “John has shown a very high level of dedication to his career and we are extremely happy that he has reached Chartered Engineer status, both for John personally and for Allett!  Achieving such a greatly valued qualification is a significant feat and a mark of an engineer’s competence and professionalism.”

John concludes, “Going forward I hope to build on the skills I have learned during my educational and professional journey, as well as gain experience in new areas.  I have a keen interest in the development of new products and technologies which I hope will help add to the future growth of Allett as a whole.”
