Somerset CCC’s head coach praises Ground-Staff as players train outside
Somerset CCC’s head coach Jason Kerr has praised the work of Scott Hawkins and his grounds team, as the Somerset squad got the chance to train outside for the first time in 2021 this week.
Despite the recent poor weather, staff at the Club have been working hard to ensure that the players got the chance to practice and train outside as scheduled.
Head Coach, Jason Kerr explains.
“It’s been fantastic to be able to get outside,” he said. “I thought it was pretty ambitious to schedule the first outdoor session for March 8th, but Scott Hawkins and his team of ground staff have done a great job to make sure that we could get out there as planned. For the surfaces to be as good as they were at this time of year is an outstanding effort from those guys. February wasn’t kind to us weather-wise and we had a lot of rain, so I wasn’t sure that we’d be able to get out there this week. Scott and his team have done a really good job and I’d like to thank them for their efforts.
“It was great to see the players putting into practice what they’ve been working on all winter. The indoor school serves a brilliant purpose and gives the lads a good platform, but in a perfect world you would do all your preparation on grass because that’s what we play on. From a physical point of view and from a skills adaptation point of view you need to be on grass as early as you can be and thankfully, we’ve been able to do that this week.”
