GreenMech Revolutionises The World Of Wood Chippers
Over the last two decades, GreenMech has revolutionised the world of wood chippers and green waste shredders with innovations in design and technology. Within the ever expanding range of products, the company’s Arborist 150 and ArbTrak 150 wood chippers find a niche in the hire market.
The Arborist 150 road tow machine has a chipping capacity of 150mm and has become the hire industry standard. A good ‘all round’ tow machine it is only matched by its tracked version, the ArbTrack 150 that becomes a ‘go-anywhere’ chipper that can be manoeuvred into tight spaces, like a back garden.
They are diesel powered hydraulic machines designed to be cost effective with little sophistication. Ideal for the hire market because of low maintenance, needing only general engine maintenance like greasing, but most importantly in the area of blade sharpening. GreenMech’s revolutionary Disc-Blade system comes into its own for longer blade life with less frequent sharpening requirements. Standard straight blade systems see sharpening every 20 or so hours, but the Disc-Blade design has the ability to turn them to a new sharp section before needing to be sharpened.
The Arborist 150 and ArbTrak 150 find applications with Contractors and Local Authorities, often on long term hire, through to golf clubs, leisure parks and even private individuals that find they have tree waste to dispose of.
Alan Campbell, Managing Director of Campbell Plant Hire, says in the Highlands he finds there are a lot of small independent tree surgeons who have the need for a chipper for maybe 3 or 4 days at a time. He also hires to large Estate owners who find the need for a machine to clear storm damage or for general maintenance of wooded areas, like preparing for shoots.
“The GreenMech Arborist 150 has a superior build quality and has proven to be a versatile piece of equipment,” says Alan. “The generous 970mm x 790mm in-feed hopper aids bushy brash reduction, coupled with a 150mm x 230mm letterbox-style in-feed throat which enables heavily forked branches to be fed in easily.
“The easy movability of the unit has enabled our tree surgeon customers to reduce the waste before removing it from site. The insulated steel panels provide robustness as well as lower noise emissions for the operator.”
Alan found that hire patterns for the Arborist 150 had become very regular so he doubled his fleet. “Once my customers tried the machine, we found it was hardly in the yard so the addition of another to the fleet was imperative.”
