New Barenbrug RPR Stadium Wipes The Floor With The Competition
Grass expert Barenbrug UK has launched RPR Stadium, the ultimate grass seed for UK stadiums. Solving the four biggest challenges faced by stadium managers – in one scientifically proven mix.
The perennial ryegrass blend has also been tested by Barenbrug customers, and proven to deliver four key traits:
Ultimate wear tolerance
The mixture and its component parts have been extensively trialled under intense wear pressure at our Cropvale research station in the UK. Objective data recording over two years conclusively proves the blend’s performance with regard to wear tolerance.
Camera-ready colour
The innovative new mixture delivers darker, camera friendly colour – far superior to any other premium mixture on the market – with excellent colour in autumn and winter.
Disease tolerance
Drechslera leaf spot is the biggest disease issue in the UK stadium environment. Reliable independent data from the French Turfgrass List show that RPR STADIUM offers superior tolerance compared to competitors’ mixtures.
Fast recovery
Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass (RPR) breeding is focussed predominantly on recovery or “regeneration” during wear pressure. RPR’s possess an unparalleled capacity to recover in that they can produce determinate stolons and entirely new plants to counteract the effect of intense wear or other turf damage.
The new variety Barlibro in RPR STADIUM is the next generation of these distinct cultivars, offering superior performance, with respect to the speed and aggression of its stoloniferous growth.
Ian Forshaw, Head Groundsman at the £30m Wigan DW Stadium, says: “Incredibly, we’ve had five games on the pitch and the grass is only 13 weeks old. It’s practically undamaged and in pristine condition. RPR STADIUM has drastically reduced the amount of time we have to spend repairing the grass.”
Dr David Greenshields, Research and Development Manager at Barenbrug says: “Our latest R&D programme using Digital Image Analysis, allows us to analyse European winter sports ryegrass performance under wear in the UK. The research objectively confirms that Barorlando and Barcristalla offer an unparalleled combination of wear tolerance and dark genetic colour—at levels previously unseen. RPR STADIUM offers unrivalled benefits for groundsmen and winter sports pitches across the UK.”
Cultivars
RPR STADIUM is made up of 35% Barorlando perennial ryegrass, 35% Barcristalla perennial ryegrass and 30% Barlibro RPR perennial ryegrass.
