South West To North East Projects For total-play

2 Dec 2014

It’s been a busy few months for sports surface specialist total-play Ltd, with clubs and schools across the country enlisting its services on a host of projects.

Since the end of the playing season it has been cricket works – ranging from new installations to end of season works and refurbishments – that have formed the lion’s share of work, and seen the team travel the length and breadth of the country. Just a few of the projects completed include the installation of non-turf practice net facilities at Shillingstone CC in Dorset, Somerset’s Clevedon CC and Yorkshire sides Thorpe Willoughby CC and Hull Zingari CC.

Before and after pictures of the facility at Shillingstone Cricket Club.

Business Development Manager at total-play, James Coney, says: “We’re enjoying what is possibly our busiest Autumn yet, working on projects for clubs and schools playing at all levels up and down the country. Our status as an ECB Code of Practice Installer for non-turf pitches and ECB Approved Pitch System Supplier is continuing to win us work, but we’re also finding more and more clubs tapping into our natural turf expertise to support them during end of season works.

“In terms of trends, our new two tone blue and green carpet for our non-turf cricket pitch systems is proving really popular and we also find that clients really like the fact that all work is carried out by our in-house team, using our own extensive range of plant equipment.”

This was a key factor that impressed Hugh Shackell, Project Co-ordinator Shillingstone CC, when he was appointed a supplier to install the club’s new facility: “total-play impressed from the outset with their attention to detail and the project specification. However a key benefit for us was that, although there was a break during installation, the same men who had started the project came back to complete it.

“As a former contracts manager in the construction industry, experience tells me that – even with the best will in the world – if someone else has to take on a project to finish it the mental attitude is not going to give the same quality end product. Although a ball won’t be bowled on the new system until the spring, everyone that has made a comment has been positive about the appearance, quality of workmanship and materials used – including cricket clubs that had used other installers!”
