Wiedenmann UK’s Fleet Takes Undulations In Its Stride
Undulations are part and parcel of every golf course, and manufacturers such as Wiedenmann UK make sure all their equipment accommodates contours.
However, at some golfing locations undulations represent a little bit more of a challenge and for these situations Wiedenmann has an ever expanding list of features and options especially to deal with hilly terrain.
Wiedenmann’s Super 600 is a recently added three-in-one flail mower, collector and verticutter.
Two of Wiedenmann’s fleet of ten Terra Spike deep aerators – the GXi 6 and GXi 8HD – offer a patented Advanced Tine Control (ATC) system. ATC controls the entry point of the tine into the turf. All moving parts of the system like springs and heave linkages are positioned behind covers at the front of the machine away from the workings and ‘dirt area’. Wear and tear is reduced and the covers help quieten the machine.
The centre of gravity being closer to the tractor makes it exceptionally stable. The tines on the GXi are nearer to the front roller ensuring a uniform job as the spiking action is exceptionally precise and accurate. Constant hole-spacing is maintained even at high fast forward speed so when following the contours of the ground the quality of work does not falter.
Indeed, the GXi machines were primarily designed for golf, sufficiently compact and to suit greens, tees and aprons. The GXi 6 with its 1.4 m working width favours a smaller tractor with a lighter footprint on courses with undulating and irregular shaped greens. The slightly bigger GXi 8HD (the HD standing for heavy duty) is also suitable for fairways, its additional 40 cm (1.8 m wide) distinguishes it as an extremely versatile all-rounder, so much so, it has become Wiedenmann’s top selling aerator.
Moving to collectors, Wiedenmann’s Super 600 is a recently added three-in-one flail mower, collector and verticutter which instantly suits course managers who find by investing in just one machine they can cover off a multitude of tasks. For those whose tricky terrain hampers journeys back and forward to empty loads, the massive 4500 litre tank means that it takes a lot longer to fill and consequently needs less time spent emptying.
Even its sister model, the Super 500 boasts a very respectable 2500 litre tank. The 2.1 metre high dump facility comes as standard to both and has infinitely variable settings, allowing easy tipping into bins and trailers when discharge eventually is required.
Extremely safety conscious, the in-cab remote control allows the operator to easily change the three operating functions – head unit lift and lower, hopper lift and hopper tip. In any of its modes it produces a high airflow which ensures that the collected material is well compacted.
It is extremely manoeuvrable with a light footprint; the four 23x 10.5 pneumatic tyres minimising pressure on fine turf areas. The container lifts via a parallel system, with the hopper rotating – allowing the hopper to completely discharge collected material. Working depth or height of cut is easily and quickly adjusted.
Two optional kits are available to the Super 500 and 600 both of which can be bolted on post purchase and both taking just 15 minutes to fit. The golf course kit is fitted to the front roller and replaces the two tyres and enables the customer to get the very best of the machine allowing the multi-function head to follow the contours more accurately.
The super contour kit assists those with deep ridges and furrows. It comprises an additional back roller with additional anti scalp rollers which fits inside the rotor drum brings the anti- scalp wheels even closer to the centre of the rotor drum so they follow contours precisely.
Finally, anti-scalp rollers are standard to all Wiedenmann mowers.
