Job Vacancy: Skilled Groundsperson, London Stadium
London Stadium are looking for two Skilled Groundsperson’s to assist the Head Groundsperson and the team in managing and maintaining the playing surfaces to the highest standards within a stadium environment. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in a grounds environment, with the opportunity to be involved in exciting events such as football, Major League Baseball, athletics, rugby and community events.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience from working within the sports turf industry, with an emphasis on helping to monitor and plan activities. A knowledge of the set up and use of modern turf management equipment is essential. A working knowledge of fully automatic irrigation and turf reinforcement management will be essential to fulfil the requirements for this position.
You should have good time management and technical skills and have the ability to work as part of a team as well as using your initiative to work unsupervised on a variety of tasks. You will take pride in your work and be driven by a determination to contribute to our Premier League standard pitch. You will bring relevant lived and work experience to make a difference to those communities we serve in east London.
No two days will be same so this role will be varied and give you the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities. Day to day you will be involved in preparations for some of the biggest national and international events as well as having a key role in ensuring the community pitch is delivered to meet business objectives. Events take place all year round, and at different times and days, so you will be required to work early mornings, evenings and weekends to fulfil particular business needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide and develop all grounds services within the stadium environment and adjoining community pitch to maintain company and professional standards.
- Assist Grounds Management to meet Key Performance Indicators and your personal objectives.
- Undertake routine preparation and maintenance work on the company’s pitches, meeting all physical requirements to effectively use all machinery.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all relevant National and Local current legislation i.e. Health and Safety, first aid, COSHH, environment and employment to ensure compliance. Conduct regular risk assessment programmes.
- Undertake all preparatory and renovation work to maintain safe quality playing surfaces.
- Drive vehicles and handle equipment as required for grounds maintenance operations.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are regularly maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements. Monitor the use of consumable items and spares and make arrangements for their replenishment.
- Ensure the safe use, storage, calibration and disposal of pesticides, fertilisers and other similar substances.
- Assisting with the management of third party contractors.
- Ensure grounds management are kept informed of progress of routine work and are notified of major issues when identified.
- Act to ensure the match day team are adequately briefed on duties, able to execute them in the correct manner and complete the assigned workload.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, colleagues and end users.
- Make recommendations to grounds management regarding improved work systems, labour and machinery utilization where indicated.
- Ensure work area is kept clean, tidy and secure at all times
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of technical competency areas and take a proactive approach to self-development and performance improvement. Support and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, contributing to corporate priority themes and the organisation’s overall delivery aims, acting as an ambassador for London Stadium.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Qualifications
- NVQ 2 in relevant grounds maintenance
- NPTC – PA1, PA2 and PA6
- Having, or working towards a NVQ Level 3
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience of pitch technology such as Irrigation, Undersoil Heating and Stadium Grow Lights
- Good working knowledge of Pitch Maintenance Machinery and Grounds techniques
- Awareness of relevant Health and Safety legislation and experience in Multi-use environment
- Working knowledge of undersoil heating, fully automatic irrigation, pitch grow lights and turf reinforcement management (desirable)
