Charterhouse is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to live and work. It was founded in 1611 and moved to its present magnificent 250 acre site near Godalming in Surrey in 1872. Our stunning grounds comprise 135 acres of playing fields including 16 football pitches, 1 rugby pitch, 1 lacrosse pitch, 9 cricket squares, all-weather cricket nets, 13 hard tennis courts (due to increase to 15), 12 all-weather tennis courts, 3 all-weather hockey pitches, 1 athletics tartan running track plus field sports areas. There is a 35-acre 9-hole golf course covering 2,576 yards. Ornamental lawns and gardens are present in and around the school buildings, boarding houses and the Old Headmaster’s Garden. There are also 60 acres of woodlands, some of which are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
Candidate Profile
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic Grounds Manager to join the School. The Grounds Manager will, along with his or her team, proactively manage and maintain the highest standards of playing surfaces, woodlands, gardens and lawns and will oversee the long term planning of grounds’ maintenance, upkeep and renovation in line with time, financial and user requirements.
The successful candidate will have proven track record within the grounds care profession, demonstrable technical knowledge of industry standards as well as experience in managing budgets and inspiring a team to achieve outstanding results. A minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in sports turf management is an essential requirement whilst an experience of working within a school or college environment is highly desirable.
